After starting my new role as the Community Garden support worker early December I was pleased that at the official Pasda plot launch in January we had so many carers coming from all over Edinburgh and the Lothians – by plane…or rather bus, train or automobiles. Did you know you can get from Musselburgh train station to Dalmeny rail station and up to Craigie’s in 45 minutes? – see travel link for details. I got to meet some faces who I had met at a few social events and some new ones. I have managed to get an array of ideas people would like to obtain from coming to the garden over a spot of lunch and taking in the views. This included to learn how to grow various fruit and vegetables; be involved with building garden furniture, a BBQ and maintenance; to becoming a composting expert; build a pond; enjoy the café and local walks; and visit the farm animals and bees. The transport links have helped to get people over to Craigie’s in South Queensferry; and I am sure the warmer weather will also make the trip more appealing (please see the link).

There is so much to offer to all members of the family but Thursdays are to be dedicated to those Pasda carers in particular. This is a means of escapism and the chance to kick back a bit; unwind and have some good chat with other carers; farm workers; local wildlife or resident farm animals. The thought of the warm summer months; the tranquillity of the garden; I am sure this little piece of heaven will be popular among many of you that never thought of gardening before. I personally cannot wait to get to know you all; for all our produce to grow, be harvested and I can enjoy cooking it outdoors with you and having a toast to all the hard work in getting there.
